GARNER – A Mason City man has pled guilty to third offense pot possession after Forest City police arrested him last year.
Michael Leslie Groff, age 35 of Mason City, pled guilty to third offense possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) – an aggravated misdemeanor – stemming from an investigation by the Forest City Police Department on November 5, 2013.
Groff was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail and pay $843.75, plus court costs and attorney fees. Groff’s fine and all but 14 days of the jail sentence were suspended, and he will be on probation for one year to the Department of Correctional Services. Groff will be required to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and complete all follow through treatment. The court ordered the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to revoke Groff’s driving privileges for 180 days.
