WASHINGTON – Hundreds have died of a lethal killing virus in Africa in recent days, and now at least two persons who have contracted the deadly Ebola virus are coming to the United States.

The State Department, together with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is facilitating a medical evacuation for two U.S. citizens who have been infected by Ebola in West Africa.

“The safety and security of U.S. citizens is our paramount concern,” the U.S. State Department said Friday, August 1. “Every precaution is being taken to move the patients safely and securely, to provide critical care en route on a non-commercial aircraft, and to maintain strict isolation upon arrival in the United States.”

The World Health Organization, in partnership with the Ministries of Health in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria announced a cumulative total of 1,323 suspect and confirmed cases of Ebola virus disease (EVD) and 729 deaths, as of July 27, 2014. Of the 1,323 clinical cases, 909 cases have been laboratory confirmed for Ebola virus infection.

The State department said the evacuations will take place over the coming days. “CDC protocols and equipment are used for these kinds of medical evacuations so that they are carried out safely, thereby protecting the patient and the American public, as has been done with similar medical evacuations in the past,” a State Department spokeswoman explained.

Upon arriving in the United States, the patients will be taken to medical facilities with appropriate isolation and treatment capabilities.

Because of privacy considerations, the State Department would not confirm the names or other specific details of the particular cases of the infected U.S. citizens.

The Guinean Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Liberia, and the Nigerian Ministry of Health are working with national and international partners to investigate and respond to the outbreak.

For those of you who insist on traveling. Don’t!
People who are not taking this serious are the idiots who are going to keep spreading it!

I have mixed emotions on this. Granted they are from the United States, and should have the right to come home for treatment. But they chose to go to Africa. They felt it was their mission and passion. I think they should try to send a team there to treat them there.

We get ourselves here in u.s into everyone elses problems.
Everyone thinks the bunkers and under ground shelters would save you. Stock lots of ammo and save your families.

Bunkers and under ground shelters is your best bet to surviving if this virus got loose. Our own President don’t give a crap because he has a bunker for this type of thing. I haven’t seen him address anything about this yet. He don’t care! Your right people need to stock pile and take care of their own when shit hits the fan!

We had the same knee jerk reaction when HIV AIDS was first detected but science and medicine, technology and compassion addressed and managed the epidemic. Relax and be watchful and hopeful. This too shall pass.

Completely disagree. Hyper-vigilance is needed right now to completely eradicate it before it gets a toe hold in America. Despite the tightest protocols, mistakes get made, chaos ensues, and unplanned for situations arise. Had HIV been discovered and quarantined and eradicated in this manner, it wouldn’t be the global menace it is today. Ebola is deadlier than HIV and more easily spread. Mutations are also possible. You can kiss someone with HIV and not get it. Try that with Ebola.

I disagree also, people need to be very concerned and get educated. This virus is nothing to mess with and the us doctors are doing just that. This virus isn’t going away anytime soon and people need to realize this. We had 2 doctors mess up already and that’s why its being brought back here to the US do you really think someone else won’t mess up? Its just a matter of time. Pay attention

As far as that peace corp volunteer from Clear Lake I believe he should stay put also his cab driver already died from the virus. Nobody really knows what the virus comes from so who’s to say he might bring it back!

That’s like close-to-home freaky. Wow, he could bring that back right here to Clear Lake! Holy beJesus. I’m going back to Menard’s for more respirator cartridges. Wouldn’t that be shits and giggles if my survival home ended up being the most sought after property in the area? Wow, this could all start going down.

I can visually see it now all the bikers wanting your help. How would that work? You have to stand your ground and not allow them in!

Well first if they confessed the errors of their prior ways, I’m very forgiving. Maybe their loud tailpipes could be used advantageously at that point to scare roaming hordes of the infected…but probably they’d just attract more to the site. Yeah, they’d probably better find another place to dig-in. Hell, they wouldn’t want to team up with me anyway…they’d just ride the roads with sawed off shotguns on their backs pillaging fuel on their last and glorious RIDE ACROSS AMERICA.

I agree, usually the ones who like to betray themselves as being strong are usually the ones with a weak mind or with no common sense. They wouldn’t have the courage to know what has to be done. Something similar to these ‘professionals’ who think they can cure this virus. Those are the type who are usually the cause of millions of deaths.

Physical courage is the word I think I was more aiming for. lol

I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s ride. I just think it calls for some common sense and basic courtesy. Anyone who would alter their tailpipe exhaust to be unnecessarily loud at the expense of MANY in the community who don’t want to hear loud sounds coming from the streets are typically self-centered, selfish to begin with. There’s a time and place for loud and proud (like at tonite’s Classic Car Crawl). We have laws on the books that were supposed to protect people from that shit.

I’ve seen and heard plenty of bitchin rides out there who aren’t any louder than a moped, and my hat’s off to those riders. In my view the extra cacophony (loud discordant mixture of sounds) just confuses drivers, especially older ones, and makes them see motorcycles less. Now if loud pickup trucks and cars would put their mufflers back on, THEN any loud sounds from bikes would be more effective as a warning. After all, a dog that barks constantly loses its effectiveness as a guard dog.

This is indeed a scary thought this is not the first time Ebola has been in the U.S. Granted this is the first time a strain that is deadly to humans has been here there was a strain of Ebola named after an incident in Reston, Virginia in the 90s. In Africa the culture and lack of resources fuel the spread of the illness, here in the U.S. it would be much harder for the virus to kill in the numbers it currently is, unless it mutates and becomes air born, then it becomes the andromeda strain.

Maybe this is the beginning of the end for the human race? Should I be studying Revelations?

Yes, instead of building a earthship or whatever it is that your building you might want to build a underground shelter and start stock piling food!

That is what an Earthship is! ha ha. They are the ultimate in survival homes.

Every earthship I googled brought me back to a above ground ordinary looking house. I’m thinking underground would be better for this virus.

You’d still need air intake either way, so you may as well just invest in good airtight filtration system and seal it all up. They are mostly buried with earth despite their above ground appearance. The ideal Earthship is built into the south side of a hill or mountain. Total underground and camouflaged would be best if you were trying to avoid detection by roaming hordes of infected ‘Zombies’. But the government would have plat books and know who you were occupying the land.

And you DO know that sun is required to grow food, so you wouldn’t last long underground without needing to surface. Plus if anyone discovered your air intake system, you’d be toast. It’s a tough call, but I think I’d rather have high ground than low. If you were going to build an underground bunker, you’d need to do so without notifying county or city authorities about what you were doing. I feel it’s our right to build permission-free anyway since land is ours, not the governments.

You would definitely be in my zombie group! 🙂

@Philly-I don’t know about the end of the human race, but it could certainly be the end for a lot of people if this gets loose. I firmly believe that they are taking an unnecessary chance with all of our lives. The diseases at the border is another issue altogether. the disease they have down there has been around for a long time and we have cures for it. Anyone who has spent time there knows there is always disease in the illegals homes. They do not vacinate like they should.

Whats the difference? We let everybody else in?

These people went over there on their own. Do not endanger the rest of us because of their poor decision. They need to stay there.

couldnt agree more. They need to shut down the border and contain it all in africa. i dont wanna die from ebola cuz some dumb doctor wanted to go try to save the world gets infected and brings it here.

Just wondering, who is paying to bring this deadly disease to the US. With the plague that’s coming across the southern border, our government is using all it’s options to turn the US into a third world country. Goodbye America, as we know it.

Ok fine, but Medical Emergency Quarantine Priority #1 and NO MORE travel to affected countries. Yes, treat them and hopefully save their lives. Seems to me training videos and equipment could be airdropped into affected zones for African doctors to set up treatment facilities without foreign doctors present. The internet and telephones can do wonders to train and update medical personnel. Be smart, think of your own people before you rush to aid others.

Phil,…God Bless You. You make more sense than so many people and you can tell your compassionate about others plight. I’ve always found your thoughts and sentiments to be interesting and if not at least intriguing. You think “outside” the box and the world needs more people like you around bud. Rock and roll for gingivitis.

If God is going to bless me, I wish he’d hurry up and do so. I’ve been waiting for a blessing for sometime now. Thanks Rocko. 🙂
