MASON CITY – An Illinois man who had a very expensive bicycle stolen while he was in Mason City for the RAGBRAI festival got a phone call from police, saying the bike has been recovered and he can come and pick it up. Meanwhile, a local woman has been charged with a felony in the theft.
Heather Leigh Twaddle, who has various alias names, was found to be in possession of a stolen bicycle that was valued at $1,800, Mason City police said Thursday. The bike was reported stolen from East Park during the evening of July 23, 2014, as the RAGBRAI festival was in full swing. Twaddle was first interviewed by police on the evening of July 24 regarding the bicycle theft. On July 28, Mason City police formally charged Twaddle with felony second degree theft and she was arrested and booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail, a place she has been before.
Twaddle posted $5,000.00 surety bond and was released from jail pending an August 8 court appearance.
During the course of the alleged theft, Twaddle was out of jail on pre-trial release connected to drug charges and bringing drugs into the Cerro Gordo County Jail. Those charges were brought last January, but no court or trial dates have been set.
The owner of the bicycle is from Oswego, IL. He has been contacted to come and pick the bike up. Chief Michael Lashbrook said the “the bike is fine.”

He’s very lucky, usually when a bike is stolen, it is taken apart and pieced back together with other bike parts, which makes it hard to identify.
Some bikes are very very expensive and are well over the amount required to be a felony. This lady needs to go away just for stupidity.
