NIACC athletic department announces 2014 hall of fame class

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC athletic department is pleased to announce the hall of fame class of 2014.

The class includes football coach Dick Ramsey, men’s basketball player Brent “Bo” Bair, women’s basketball player Terri (Helgeson) Craft, football player Mike Heston and former NIACC coach and Vance Baird.

Ramsey, who coached at NIACC from 1986-2002, compiled a record of 110-58-1 and guided the Trojans to seven bowl games.

Helgeson, who played at NIACC from 1975-77, ranks third on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,026 points and is ninth on the all-time steals list with 128. She was an all-tournament selection at the 1976 national tournament where the Lady Trojans placed seventh.

Bair, who played at NIACC from 1985-87, went on to play at the University of Virginia in the ACC where he was the Cavaliers’ team captain in the 1988-89 season. Bair ranks seventh on NIACC’s single-season points list with 485.

Heston was a first-team all-NJCAA All-American in 1963 as a tight end for Mason City Junior College. The 1963 team was 7-0 and was the last undefeated football team in school history.

Baird, who attended MCJC in the 1950s, coached football at NIACC in the 1970s and still works at NIACC in the athletic department. Baird will receive the distinguished service award.

The inductees will be honored at the Day of Champions event on Sunday, Sept. 21 on the NIACC campus.
