CEDAR FALLS – Ben Messerli has been named an Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance at the University of Northern Iowa. He will begin his work at UNI on Aug. 4.
Messerli comes to UNI from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga where he served as the Mocs Assistant Director of Compliance from April 2013 to July 2014. He assisted in all aspects of NCAA, Southern Conference and UTC compliance for the Mocs.
Prior to his time at UTC, Messerli was an Athletic Compliance Assistant at the University of North Dakota from July 2012 to March 2013. Messerli also gained experience at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he worked as an assistant in the Athletic Compliance Office while attending graduate school. Messerli obtained his master’s degree in sport management from Tennessee in 2012.
Messerli graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, in 2010 with a degree in business administration. He played football and golf for the Knights and eventually served as a student assistant defensive coach for the football team during their run to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
He also served internships at the Air Force Academy (Athletic Development/Marketing) and at the University of Iowa (Football – Administrative Intern).
He and his wife, Jess, are both natives of Marion, Iowa.
