Mason City meth dealer sent back to Beje Clark for probation violation

MASON CITY – A convicted meth dealer once sent to the revolving door Beje Clark halfway house for dealing meth is headed back there.

Charles Barnish of Mason City had been arrested along with fourteen other defendants in July of 2011 as part of an investigation by the North Iowa Drug Task Force.

Barnish was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver, a class C felony, on July 28th, 2011. The charge stems from Barnish’s delivery of methamphetamine in July of 2010.

Barnish entered a voluntary negotiated guilty plea on September 27th, 2011. On November 9th, 2011 Barnish was sentenced in Cerro Gordo County District Court by Judge James Drew to 180 days in a residential facility, a ten year suspended prison sentence, and five years of probation with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Drew also suspended the minimum $1,000 fine and ordered Barnish to pay $211 in court costs and a $125 surcharge.

On July 1, 2014, Barnish was accused of violating the terms of his probation. On July 28, Judge Gregg Rosenbladt found Barnish guilty and sent him back to the Beje Clark halfway house, where criminals routinely come and go almost as they please. Barnish now owes a total of $1,292.67 in court costs and fees, and has made no payments on that blanace.

Barnish has an extensive criminal record including a felony conviction of possession of 5 grams of methamphetamine in 2006 in which he had also received a ten year suspended prison sentence. He eventually was convicted of a probation violation and was sentenced to the violators program at Oakdale prison. In addition Barnish has been in and out of county jail on numerous domestic abuse assault charges and violation of no contact orders.

Barnish remains in the Cerro Gordo County jail waiting bed space at Beje Clark.
