MASON CITY – A convicted felon was arrested this weekend for allegedly driving a golf cart on a city street while intoxicated.
A Mason City police officer stopped Rusty Lewis Kopps, age 26, while he was driving a golf cart near 13th Street and North Washington Avenue. Kopps was determined by the officer to be intoxicated and arrested for second offense operating while intoxicated, no insurance and unlawful operation of a golf cart on a roadway.
Kopps was last caught for drunk driving by Cerro Gordo deputies in 2012. He was assessed $3,013.75 in fines and fees, and has failed to make a payment on that balance. Kopps was charged with felony burglary in 2010 in Winnebago county and given a deferred judgment, but proceeded to violate terms of his probation at least three times before a judge revoked his deferred sentence.
