MASON CITY -A Minneapolis man’s rat trap house on the city’s North End is going on tax sale on Tuesday, July 29th at 10:00 AM at the Cerro Gordo County Law Enforcement Complex.
Alex M. Knapp, formerly of Nora Springs but now calling Minneapolis home, had his property at 1512 North Penn foreclosed on April 5, 2013 after Farmer’s State Bank sued him in court.
According to sources, several nefarious characters have lived in the house over the years. The house itself seems in complete disrepair, and the yard is fully overgrown with weeds, grass and volunteer trees and bushes.
Knapp was levied a $165.00 fee last year by the city of Mason City for failing to remove garbage from the property, which is assessed at $7,910. Only $150.00 in taxes are due yearly on the property; Knapp has failed to pay this year.

Seriously I saw pictures on Pete’s facebook of his tire mud hut he is trying to build. Wondering how you’re going to keep this dry when it rains, because it looks like a mud pond obstacle course. You have no idea what you are doing or attempting to do. By the way…who’s property is it that you’re tearing up? Also got your permits in place? Any structure built needs a permit. I’m sure the city/county you are building this did not approve this.
First of all, show a little respect. If you knew how much labor has gone into the work I’ve done, you’d understand I’m not a weak man. Packing tires is laborious work. I’m doing it all myself. Secondly, there are no building codes where I’m at. My design, my prerogative. Third, the land is mine. 4th: Permits are required for residential, at this point, I’m just packing tires. 5th: Water is accounted for. My plan involves growing food and plants on the walls. 6th: Piss off.
Immediately the economy needs to deflate so that a lot of land is worth about $2000. Building codes need to be adjusted to allow for the Earthship design. Any laws against gardening need eliminating. A massive recycling-allocation program to delegate building materials at a reduced / free rate. Clunkers need to be dismantled and their usable materials re-designated. Earthship principles need to be taught in schools. City lots designated as gardening centers, greenhouses…etc. etc.
Damn Philly-Give it a rest. No one is interested in you earthship hole in the ground. Take another chill pill and go back to sleep.

Who contributes to the meth problem? Landlords like Jim Marinos, Ed Kent, Russ Hardy and all the other 100 + unit owners. Every property they buy up, they enslave people’s existence, which leads to despondency, dependency, and hopelessness. When those hollow corporate jobs dry up (inevitably they come and go) people get flustered and feel insecure. They turn to quick fixes like drugs or TV. Coupled with a non existent food production infrastructure, how’d ya think it’d end up? WELFARE.
A great spot to build an Earthship. I wonder if Russ Hardy would be willing to try this experimental construction? I’m presuming he’ll nab the property up. I would be willing to supervise the construction of it if he’d be willing to fund it.
I have nothing against Russ Hardy personally. He’s a nice guy. He just happens to own large amounts of properties, so if he’d be willing to try an experimental building technique that offers maximum efficiency and low cost, while trying to help an individual or family achieve shelter from the elements, I’d be willing to showcase to him the Earthship building technique. Coupled with community gardens, it would turn this town around for the better.

I don’t really have nothing to comment on this article but rather on the ‘Blue Zone poll’ and how it’s impacted my life and not for the better i’d say. I AM FAT and getting FATTER. It seems like every corner I turn in this town they offer food but not healthy food. Does anyone know where I can find a healthy establishment.
Good point. You can smell fried food all over the place in MC. Just try to go for a jog without getting a lungful of greasy burger smell.
