WASHINGTON – The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it deported adults and children that recently crossed the U.S. border.
According to ICE, on July 14th, a group of adults with children who recently crossed the border were returned to Central America.
“As President Obama, the Vice President, and Secretary Johnson have said, our border is not open to illegal migration and we will send recent illegal migrants back,” ICE said in a statement. “We expect additional migrants will be returned to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador in the coming days and weeks, based on the results of removal proceedings or expedited removal. These returns are a result of the President’s direction to surge resources such as immigration judges and asylum officers to process these cases more quickly.”
On Monday, former presidential candidate Rick Perry announced he was sending unto 1,000 troops to the Texas border to ward of illegal migrants entering his state. Perry, furthermore, called on the federal government to reimburse Texas for the expense.
Many in Iowa are calling for help for the children who are entering the U.S., while many say no, making the issue extremely divisive. President Obama has called for over $50 billion to help end the crisis at the border, while Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has refused to get involved in the situation.
