AMES, Iowa – Iowa State graduate assistant Nate Loenser has been promoted to director of player development, a move announced by head coach Fred Hoiberg today.

Loenser moves into the role, which was previously held by assistant coach Charlie Henry, after spending the 2013-14 season as a graduate assistant for the Cyclones.

“Nate has been a great asset to our program in his time here,” Hoiberg said. “He brings a wealth of experience, having worked at the Division I level for seven years. He has a great relationship with our players and works hard to help them have success both on and off the court. We are fortunate to have him on our staff.”

Loenser joined the Cyclones after serving as head coach at Spirit Lake High School (Spirit Lake, Iowa) from 2010-13.

He was on the staff as an assistant coach and director of operations at Southern Mississippi for former Cyclone head coach Larry Eustachy from 2004-10. While Loenser was on the staff, USM earned its first postseason appearance in eight years. Fourteen players from Southern Miss have or are currently playing in professional leagues.

A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Loenser was a member of the Cyclone baseball team, lettering in 2001. He graduated from Iowa State in 2002.
