Harkin furious that Republicans block “Not My Boss’s Business Act”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement last week after Senate Republicans obstructed consideration of theProtect Women’s Health from Corporate Interference Act, also known as the Not My Boss’s Business Act. Harkin is an original sponsor of the bill, which would restore the contraceptive coverage requirement guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act and protect coverage of other health services from employers who want to impose their beliefs on their employees by denying benefits.

“The Affordable Care Act was crafted to empower Americans to make health care decisions that are best for them and their families through access to preventive care services, including birth control, with no-cost sharing. The Supreme Court’s wrongheaded ruling in Hobby Lobby jeopardizes this essential coverage for hundreds of thousands of Americans and opens to the door to further employer interference regarding coverage of health services used by men, women, children, and seniors alike, such as vaccines or blood transfusions. By obstructing the Not my Boss’s Business Act, Senate Republicans have shown that they have no qualms about blocking access to critical health care services for every day, working people in Iowa and across the country.‎

“The bottom line is all Americans, men and women alike, should be able to make decisions about their medical care in consultation with their doctor, not their boss. The Supreme Court may have ruled, but this fight is far from over. Along with my colleagues in Congress, I am deeply committed to ensuring that Americans can access the health services guaranteed to them under the law.”

Funny–I thought Republicans wanted government to be involved in peoples’ lives as little as possible. Isn’t that it? Small government allowing the common man personal autonomy to make personal decisions? Pretty rich to then turn around and say that an employer can meddle in the common man’s personal life by controlling his/her medications due to their own personal beliefs.

Also, science check. Birth control is not an abortifacient. It prevents implantation. Very different.

you really have no idea what is going on.

Rut roh Scoobs,…looks like ‘maybe’ is friendless again tonite. Nowhere to go and nothing to do but bitch and moan and shed some more tears of loneliness. It reminds me of that one song,….sing it Freddy. Lonely days and lonely nights…

Not tired or lonely, I have my grandkids to keep me busy. Just tired of you ignorant people believing everything that is spoon fed to you by the leftist media. If you want to believe all the lies then so be it but don’t crawl up my a$$ when I point out how stupid you are.

@J-sex is a choice, not a right and if you are going to do it you should pay your own way, not force other people to do it for you. You are as bad as the dopers in Colorado who want to use their food stamps to buy pot.

“The Supreme Court may have ruled, but this fight is far from over.” That’s actually code for; I DIDN’T GET MY WAY, SO I WANT A DO-OVER. I AM A UNITED STATES SENATOR FROM THE BAHAMAS AND I AM USED TO GETTING WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT IT AND THE REST OF YOU CAN GO TO HELL UNTIL I GET WHAT I WANT.

“IF” the Supreme Court had ruled against Hobby Lobby, Harkin would have chastised anyone else for wanting a do-over to this same ruling. Can’t wait for him to be GONE!!!!

Trying to get every voting person hooked on some form of government payment is the democrat party way. There is no more right and wrong just vote for our party so we can keep our elaborate lifestyles. This country has taken a sad turn for the worst.

Tom– STFU

I can understand wanting to exclude abortions, but birth control pills themselves should be included. An unwanted or unplanned for child ends up burdening all of society (potentially). It’s bad animal husbandry to let your animals wildly procreate. I just don’t understand why Catholicism works its way into our lawmaking. Let that crap go people. Be ethical, but not Biblical, if that makes any sense to you. Above all be WISE.

Peter, your ignorance is showing again. There are 20 different types of birth control, the 4 that causes the fetus to abort is what hobby lobby is complaining about so of the 20 they do allow 16. The news media wants everybody to think that they don’t want to cover all contraceptives but it is only 4 of the 20 they don’t want to cover. Like what Anonymous said, having sex is a decision that could result in pregnancy, personal choices shouldn’t be covered.

@Philly-once again you are so full of crap it is coming out your ears. People are not animals and have a choice on what they do. If the woman does not want to get pregnant that is a choice and just like all other choices we maake she should pay for it on her own. Of course ownership of anything is not in your vocabulary.

Harkin you dummy, our Constitution says differently.
Get a life and quit interfering with the American working people. We don’t want to pay for abortions. Besides, getting pregnant is a choice not a health issue. What an idiot this Harkin is.

@Anonymous-That is just typical of liberals.
