Man who fled from cops on ATV, then on foot, finally in jail

MASON CITY – A Nora Springs man is in jail after successfully eluding law enforcement Monday evening on an ATV and then on foot.

Cole Thomas Wickwire, age 19, is now in jail, charged with a plethora of crimes, including driving while barred, eluding law enforcement, operating ATV on roadway, failure to obey stop or yield sign (three counts), speeding, and driving while barred. Cerro Gordo deputies served warrants on Wickwire early Wednesday morning, July 16th, at about 2:00 AM when he turned himself in, Sheriff Kevin Pals said.

Wickwire proved to be a crafty man Monday evening, leaving law enforcement scratching their heads as he ran into a wooded area after abandoning his ATV. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that at about 5:50 PM, a deputy attempted to stop an ATV that was operating on a roadway at the 19000 block of Yucca Avenue near Nora Springs, driven by Wikwire. He refused to stop, and fled into the Shell Rock River Preserve. Wickwire then abandoned the ATV and continued to flee on foot into a wooded area. Several warrants were issued for his arrest, and he remained at-large until Wednesday.
