INDEPENDENCE – A 14-year-old Iowa teen is under arrest and charged with attempted murder.
On Thursday, May 29, 2014, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Kyara Renee Redmond, 14, of Cedar Rapids. Redmond was arrested and charged with Attempt to Commit Murder (class B felony), Going Armed with Intent (class D felony), Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (class D felony), Willful Injury (class D felony) and Assault with Intent to Inflict Injury (aggravated misdemeanor). This arrest was made after an incident at Four Oaks on the MHI Campus in the 2200 blk Iowa Avenue southwest of Independence. Redmond was also charged with Assault (simple misdemeanor) stemming from another incident on May 23, 2014.
Redmond was taken into custody and later transferred to a Juvenile Detention Center. She has been referred to Juvenile Court Services.
