Deputies foil meth delivery of high driver

FAYETTE COUNTY – Deputies in this northeast Iowa county stopped a driver who was high on drugs and in the process of delivering methamphetamine.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, on April 21 at about noon, deputies investigated a suspicious driver on 220th Street and P Ave, a few miles west of West Union. Once deputies located the vehicle, they found Tessa Laine Grotegut, age 33 of Waukon, was operating while under the influence of a drug.

Grotegut was searched, and found on her person were 12 grams of package for sale methamphetamine and two sets of digital scales. Grotegut was then arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail. Upon a body search, more methamphetamine was found on her person.

Grotegut was charged with felony D driving while intoxicated on a controlled substance third offense; felony C conspiracy/possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver; and felony D possessing contraband while in a jail.

If convicted, Grotegut could spend up to 20 years in prison. She remains jailed in the Fayette County Jail.
