MASON CITY – Up to $400 per well is offered for plugging abandoned private wells in Cerro Gordo County. An abandoned well is a direct channel from the surface to the water below. A contaminant can easily enter and potentially pollute the drinking water. Abandoned wells also pose a safety risk for people, pets and wildlife.

Homeowners should contact a certified well contractor to properly plug abandoned wells on their property. Funding is available through the Cerro Gordo County Health Department on a first-come first-serve basis and is provided through the statewide Grants-to-Counties program.

Water is one of our most valuable resources, so please do your part to protect it. For more information regarding private well plugging, please call (641) 421-9333 or visit us online at www.cghealth.com
