MASON CITY – Over the past several days people have been gathering at Big Blue and doing the “Plunge for Landon” – a fundraising venture which began when a Facebook page was started last month to raise awareness for baby Landon Shaw, a four-month-old baby fighting cancer.
The idea is, a person takes a plunge into cold water and challenges at least 3 people to follow, and they have 24 hours to do it. As part of the plunge, the challenger pledges to donate an amount of money for each person who makes the jump in time. You do not have to be challenged to participate; you can start the challenge yourself and make a pledge.
The craze is spreading far and wade, with many people across North Iowa, the United States and even from Germany – according to a Facebook page for the fundraiser – have taken part.
Two NIACC students took time out of their Easter Sunday to do the “Landon Plunge” at Big Blue. Kory Attleson nominated Nate Aitchison to do the plunge.
“It was worth it,” said Nate. “A good cause.”
