Report: Newspaper reporter second-worst job

John Skipper has the second-worst job, according to a report
Miserable?  Newspaper reporter John Skipper has the second-worst job, according to a report.

NIT – CareerCast has named the job of newspaper reporter the second-worst job in America, and its outlook may only get worse.

The employment website says in its 2014 Jobs Rated report that the job of a traditional newspaper reporter “has lost its luster dramatically over the past five years” and is “expected to plummet even further by 2022 as more and more print publications abandon operations.” Only lumberjacks are ranked worse.

The newspaper industry itself does not seem to value reporters and other workers like photographers, designers, and editors, as newspapers continue to cut costs and fire these kinds of employees while heaping more responsibilities on the people they choose to keep. For example, sometimes newspaper reporters are asked to take a picture at an event they would normally only have to write about.  Sometimes, newspapers simply fire these people permanently and farm the jobs out to people in far-away lands.

The projected job growth for traditional newspaper reporters by 2022 is a gloomy -13%.

Truly the best job to have is one where you get to lay around in your elderly mothers basement all day and rub yourself. Some of the requirements are; you have to talk and act smart by trying to impress people on the internet. Delusional dreams and idiotic spewing about crap everyone knows will never happen are just but a few of the benefits too.

@Buzz-Gee, do you really know anyone with a job like that?? What does a guy have to do to get it on that except swallow his pride. I will even bet he thinks he is better than everyone else.

@ LVS…..I can only think of one person who has all of the requirements of….. no self esteem, no personal pride, no moral values, no common sense, no respect for others, no ambition and last……no chance in hell of ever doing anything that ever amounted to anything. I’m so glad the motorcycles will be out in full force soon!

While the pay has never been something to write home about, it is a very satisfying, at least it was for me for more than 30 years.

By looking at the picture with this article you can see why!! looks like he lost his best friend Bookie. MAN THATS SAD
