Op-ed: Elections, Grand Marshalls, paybacks and laziness (by Peter Children)

John Skipper is a fox and a wordsmith par excellence. He is seasoned better than an Iowa ham; he knows what he is doing.

There is only one reason Branstad was appointed Grand Marshall of the North Iowa Band Festival, and that is because Eric Bookmeyer and Robin Anderson wanted him sitting atop the backseat of a convertible. This is quid-pro-quo for something… some favor, something none of you will ever know about. It’s just part and parcel of the game of politics. It is what it is, and they are who they are.

Not that far back there was a chance to correct all that. It is the past election I am referring to. In all my years I have never witnessed such a blatant display of sheer arrogance where the candidates actually hid from their constituency and were still re-elected. Those challenging the incumbents were solely judged by their wardrobe acumen rather than their knowledge of what is good for this entire community.

Branstad is governor of only part of this state; the Republican part. In that respect he mirrors Bookmeyer and the form of government he has instigated here in this community. As you all must know by now, the democratic form of government favors those who vote; those who do not vote are also important to people like Bookmeyer and Branstad. Their importance lies in the fact that they never fail in what is expected of them.

The Globe Gazette is a Republican newspaper, and for 100 years they have had their way. They have endorsed candidates who as a result have always won… now there is a fresh-faced kid in the game and he is not for sale. He tells the truth and that has caused great consternation among the power brokers who have always been able to keep their names out of the paper and far from anything that might produce an unpleasant odor. That dog won’t hunt here.

In the aftermath of the fall elections, Bookmeyer, Anderson, et-all, are just where they want to be. All of you who were too lazy to vote and help your community can open another can of beer and turn the ballgame back on because… THEY have YOU just where THEY want YOU to be.

I am going to disagree with Children on part of this. The GLOB is not a Republican Rag it is a liberal scandle sheet and always has been. Our mayor and his henchmen are closet liberals and I have it on very good authority that the Democratic Chairman fed them information about the challengers. I am not sure it makes any difference which party they represent because they are only for themselves and only use party politics when the need them. Of course they wouldn’t debate. They would have lost.

In part I agree. They have the dummies just where they want them.

The part about representing Republicans is a hoax. In fact North Iowa Republicans are really Democrats posing as a Republicans. All one has to do is look at the all the freebies the Republicans vote for.

The Globe Gazette is a liberal rag also.

The Governor, City Council, County Board of Supervisors, and Chamber of Commerce are all bleeding heart liberals elected by voters that are far far left liberals.

We got…

Nothing!

Same shit different pile. It takes radically new thinking to transcend what’s going on. If you continue to fight over and patronize incorrectly designed systems, you’re only going to come up short. All this squabble over some concrete infrastructure…it’s embarrassing when there’s hundreds of thousands of acres of rich black soil nearby. Think about it.

This couldn’t have been written by the great Peter Children. There isn’t one word mentioned about balls.

Maybe you should take a class on proper grammar and usage, or break the spine on your ‘Strunk and White’
