HAMPTON – Today, Shawn Dietz of Hampton filed nomination forms with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office to have his name placed on the June 3rd primary ballot in Iowa’s 27th Senate District. Dietz, a Republican, has spent the weeks since his caucus announcement gathering signatures at meetings and events in all three counties of the District.

“I’ve been inspired by the number of conservative Republicans who have reached out to our campaign over the past few weeks who are excited to see this area represented in the Iowa Senate by someone who is passionate about spreading a positive pro-life, traditional marriage, small government, and an overall Conservative message.” Dietz said following his filing. “We’ve spoken with many folks in all three counties, but particularly Cerro Gordo County who want to see someone take a firm stand based on these core Iowa values.”

More meet and greet events are being planned for the Dietz for Iowa campaign that will be announced in the coming weeks. Shawn will also be in attendance at the Cerro Gordo County Republican Party’s fundraiser on Tuesday, March 18 featuring U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), and U.S. Congressman Steve King (R-IA).

Shawn Dietz is the former Mayor of Hampton, and has spent the past four years working for a locally owned and operated media company in Hampton, currently serving as Program Director. In 2008, Shawn and his family personally felt the economic collapse that gripped the nation as the glass coatings factory where he spent four years as a quality control technician closed its doors.

Raised in the Butler County community of Dumont, Shawn graduated from Hampton-Dumont High School in 2000, and received an Associate in Science Degree, majoring in Sales and Marketing from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City. Shawn and his wife, Alexis continue to live in Hampton where they are raising their three children.

He did moderate a Campaign debate last fall at the Prime and Wine… With the way things lined up– I never would have dreamed he was a Repbulican. Knowing that, there is no way I could vote for him.. He pretended to be one as to not incite anyone at the debate… kind of underhanded…

Shawn’s a nice guy….sometimes too nice for the brutal and mean world of politics. I wish him well.

I think “Iowa Values” is different depending on which person you ask.

Amanda Ragan has been a great State Senator, I can’t imagine tossing her out for someone who would align with the likes of Steve King.

@Mediator-That is your opinion. Mine is she is a liar and only spends, spends, spend. She has no common sense. She likes to take credit for the kitchen but gets paid a salary to manage it. Big deal. Just a job holder. Time to get rid of her and get someone new in there. Term Limits for all.

Yes, it is my opinion, but I want to hear more about yours. Since the state government is in charge of spending, just what other option is there but to spend? Spending to help Iowans in a manner which protects the rights of all and encourages economic benefit for all rather than a few who are already economically sound seems laudable. What’s your objection to that?

Doing a quick google, Sen. Ragan has been working for property tax relief for years. That flies in the face of your spend/spend argument. Can you explain that?

@mediator-I disagree. All she wants is bigger government who controls everything we do and her voting reflects that. I have personal experience with her and in my opinion she can’t be trusted. She is a power freak.

The facts just don’t support your opinion. Her voting record includes tax relief, hardly bigger government. She and Rep. Upmeyer were responsible for ending the gridlock recently. You are welcome to your opinion, but when you don’t back it up with facts, it reveals itself.

Anybody that is anti gun and pro abortion and pro common core will not get my vote.

I think it’s commendable to have your position well defined, Maybe. However, I’ve never met anyone who is pro-abortion.

Pro-choice initiatives has a good track record of reducing abortions and teen pregnancy over the years. I can’t believe anyone is opposed to that.

And what do you think of planned parenthood? They are pushing for post birth abortion. Abortion anyway you cut it is murder, to get the votes the majority of democrats try to get the womens vote by voting for abortion.

Clearly, abortion isn’t the same as murder or we’d have our courts with many such cases. That stance is hyperbole. If you have some evidence that PP is “pushing for” post birth abortion, I’d like to see it right now.

From what I know of PP, they have been working to reduce unwanted pregnancies. You didn’t address whether that was something you supported.

It has been a couple weeks but the post birth abortion was on the news, headline news I believe. According to The Bible, abortion is murder.

I await your link to this news.

As to the Bible, mine is not so clear. Speaking of links, here’s one which argues against your position.

http://www.thechristianleftblog.org/1/post/2012/10/the-bible-tells-us-when-a-fetus-becomes-a-living-being.html

The Bible seems to not fully agree with you. What bible-supported argument do you have to counter? Can you breath life into your position? Or can we agree that the Biblical issue is murky?

@mediator-It is strange that you have changed the subject away from term limits. I guess I should not be surprised. It is an old liberal trick to change the subject when the can’t win the argument. I will say it again, I believe in term limits “for everyone.” And, her word is no good. She votes straight party line and always has. Like most democrats, she is a liar.

I believe in term limits also, would solve a lot of problems. That being said Life begins at conception, when the sperm fertilizes the egg, anything after that is killing of the fetus hense murder.

@maybe-Do not get drawn into discussions on what the bible says or doesn’t say. Everyone knows it can be interpreted many different ways. Even the different churches can not agree on it. My feeling on abortion is very simple and really isn’t about abortion. Simply it say the government or no one else to have the right to tell a woman what she can or can not do with her body. It is a personal decision that should be decided by the individual woman. It has to do with freedom.

I agree, LVS.

Your point about not being drawn into discussions about the Bible is a bit odd, though. It was Maybe who brought the Bible into this discussion.

Did you mean to warn me away from biblical discussions or is there a bias here I don’t understand?

LVS was right, the article wasn’t about abortion even though it is a common thing for democrats, getting into a biblical discussion would lead nowhere. Opinions differ per person and can rarely change with just a discussion.

@Mediator-What I meant is having a discussion on what the bible say is an argument no one can win. To much emotion and interpretration involved. I have stated before that I am not real religious but I have read the bible. To me it is a book written by men to control other men. Every religion has their own version of the bible and every religion thinks their’s is the only right one. I do not believe I am an wrong on this. We need rules to live by and the book gives us that.

Since you brought up term limits, do you equally oppose the reelection of Linda Upmeyer, who has been elected nearly twice as many times?

You may, I haven’t been following your posts, but I’d like to hear your thoughts laid out.

I am for term limits for everyone. I believe it is the only way to get corruption and special interest out of government and give it back to the people.

I don’t understand something, LVS. I asked about your stance on term limits and you responded. You didn’t ask any questions of me. How is my pursuing a different line of questions with someone else some sort of a liberal trick?

The question was asked and answered and I saw no reason to ask you anything further, you were clear.

So, what’s with the offensive? Why do you protest that I didn’t challenge you?

I have read some things he has done and am somewhat impressed. Something to think about for sure.

Shawn is a good man, high character. He’d do a phenomenal job in Des Moines.

I have met Shawn personally and believe he has the drive and ambition to represent North Iowans very well. It is time for change readers.
Let’s think about term limits.
