King decries Obama for pursuing minimum wage raise

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve King released the following statement after President Obama signed an executive order last week raising the minimum wage on federal contracts. The executive order raises the minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $10.10 an hour.

“The President has no constitutional authority to command a wage scale in every corner of America,” said King. “However, that is exactly what he attempts to do with his executive order on minimum wage today. If the President has the authority to order contract employers working for the federal government to pay a minimum wage of $10.10 an hour as opposed to $7.25 as set by Congress, then he has the authority to raise it to $20 or $50 or even $100 an hour. Where does this abuse of the Constitution stop? At this point our legal scholars, let alone the public, can’t keep up with the multitude of constitutional violations by this President.”

President Obama said later that he wants a nation-wide minimum raise hike.
