Trial set for Michigan man in hypothermia death of Waterloo child

WATERLOO – A January trial date has been set for a Michigan man now in a Waterloo jail on a charge of Child Endangerment Resulting in Death.

Nathaniel Quentin Knight, age 37, of Charlotte, Michigan, will face a January 7, 2014 trial in the death of Kannadi Porter, age 2, who died on On March 12, 2013. At approximately 7:21 PM that evening, police had responded to a Waterloo home reference a child not breathing. When police arrived they found the Kannadi’s caretaker – Nathaniel Quentin Knight – performing CPR on the child. When paramedics arrived they continued to perform CPR but found that the child’s body temperature was extremely low and the body was cold to the touch. The child was transported to Allen Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy on the child revealed that she died of probable hypothermia.

It was not until September 30th that a warrant was issued for Knight’s arrest in the case. He was arrested in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Oct. 1 by the Michigan State Police.

Knight is currently being held in the Black Hawk County Jail on 100,000.00 bond. He has pleaded not guilty.
