Mason City man who is appealing prison sentence finds trouble downtown

MASON CITY – The cultural crescent was home to a troublemaker early Sunday morning, who found himself in a familiar place: behind bars.

Mason City police were dispatched to a bar on the downtown plaza at about 1:32 AM Sunday to deal with disorderly subject inside.

Aaron Michael Hermen was arrested in the bar for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct. Hermen resisted arrest and was charged with Interference with Official Acts and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Records show Hermen, 25, immediately plead guilty to at least one charge and was released from jail hours later.

Hermen is out of jail as he is attempting to appeal three prison sentences that amount to 5 years, stemming from an incident this past February where Mason City police officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of 2nd Street NW on a report of a domestic assault in progress. When officers arrived, they learned that Aaron Michael Hermen had fled the residence in a vehicle with a 19 month-old child. Hermen struck a utility pole with the vehicle as he was fleeing, breaking the pole off its base.
