MASON CITY – A court date was set this week for Tom Barlas, Jr. in a 1st degree murder case.
Tom Barlas Jr. is accused of killing his father, Tom Barlas Sr., on July 18th at their Mason City home.
Judge Rustin Davenport on Monday set a court date of September 24th, 2013 at 8:30 AM. A pre-trial conference will be held on September 10th at 8:30 AM.
Tom Barlas Jr. pleaded not guilty to the crime.
A conviction for lst Degree murder carries a penalty of life in prison.

Good God Peter, your first post said, “I said most of what I wanted to say on whiners den about this case, no need to reprint it here.” Yet 20 of the 36 (including this post) comments so far have been from you. How self important are you my friend? Start a blog of your own if you need a throne from which to pontificate. I don’t know you personally but you seem to be a guy who can’t just let something go. If I’ve been to the moon, you’ve been there twice.
He did start his own blog and it failed. He vowed never to return to NIT. I believe that lasted less than six months. Peter has found out that it is no fun bitching if no one is listening and running a successful blog is harder than it looks.

“The Beef” as you put it, is saying you will do something then doing something else. We call that being a hypocrite and hypocrites are not to be trusted.
This is garbage. the Barlas family deserves privacy, compassion and closure. long after this diatribe has disappeared the family will still be dealing with this tragedy. What good will come of all that disclosed other than to open up so much pain.
I haven’t seen anywhere Pete had been disrespecting the Barlas’s in anyway here. It’s odd that someone would feel the need to type that stuff here.

I have worked along side Father Murphy and have seen first hand the wondrous miracles he has achieved working with people like yourself. He only wants to help you. There is no shame in being mentally incapacitated, today men like Father will help you adjust, he will help you find a place in life where you will be comfortable with so you can blend in with the rest of society. People like yourself who suffer from illusionary manifestations are returned to life with the help of medication. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

The fact we don’t get along is not on my part. I was very supportive of the Child when he first started writing. He took a patronizing, condescending tone to me, insulting and flat out inaccurate. He was one to tell people to “take their medications” as a way to tear down and discredit their thoughts. He’s dangerous to ideas of freedom, a narcissist, and quite frankly goofy in the head. He’s having one last hurrah in life. I’d say “great” to that, except that he doesn’t extend the same privileges, to others. He’s really a Fascist. He should stick to his personal life stories and leave politics (if that’s what you call his rants) alone…which are far more interesting. Unlike the Child, I give credit, where credit is due, and value people’s thoughts and contributions.
If you are as super sensitive as you claim, then how about sensing that some of us think you are a guy with nothing but time on his hands, who is on a continual, manic rant about something. Sure, you are entitled to your opinion the same as the rest of us, but give it a break every once in a while.

I understand where you’re coming from, but no such explanation will likely be coming. If some sort of mental illness is implied as a part of any plea, then wouldn’t that record be protected by a HIPPA privacy laws? Regardless of the kind of crime, medical records are not open to the public. Nor should they be. As much as I’d like to hope that people are concerned about victims and general public safety, I’m afraid most just want the gossip.
It is so plain to see the prejudice you feel towards this hardworking family. The Barlas family did not come from wealth, whatever they have came from the sweat of their brow. Their family beginnings mirrored that of your own family with the exception that your father spent the majority of his adult life going to work in a suit and tie, then his main job was merely to sort mail. Whereas Tom Barlas worked his ass off wearing an apron often times 20 hours a day. He provided jobs, he gave freely of what he earned to others less fortunate.
When you were expelled from the Hanford Inn the hatred in you festered; instead of facing the truth about the expulsion you blamed others which is how your sick mind works.

The prosecutor must also be careful to protect others against possible future attacks so they must be very diligent as well. It’s just hearsay on my part, but I’ve heard Jr. had been disturbed for several months prior and had words with others.
