MASON CITY – Upgrades at a Mason City park are underway at this time.

Wednesday afternoon, NorthIowaToday.com met with volunteer Chris Watts who explained how the Georgia Hanford Foundation continues to work towards improvements at the park.

“Today, River City Fence is replacing a large section of the backstop fencing at the ball diamond,” Watts said.

The fence replacement project has been on-going at the ball diamond at Georgia Hanford.  In 2011 River City Fence did another large section of the fence.

Watts said the fence replacement should be done Wednesday.  He is looking for volunteers to help put roofs on the dugouts as well.

Watts also said that a regulation-sized basketball court is going in next at the park.  It will replace the existing court that has one hoop.  “The new full-sized court will have six hoops,” Watts said.

Other improvements on the horizon include a new shelter house, likely to be located just south of the existing shelter house.

Watts said donations are need to keep the momentum going.

“All donations are appreciated and are tax deductible by making them out to the City of Mason City, EARMARKED Georgia Hanford project,” Watts said.

my name is georgia hanford. thanks for fixing my park.

How can you call a Chris a sore loser since he decided to help fix up a playground. Do you think he does this because he has nothing better to do? He works a 40 to 60 hour a week job and on his time off does this. He is donating his time to this without pay. Start giving Chris the respect he deserves. If he had been running against Jay Urdahl he would have smoked him in the elections. Thank you Chris for trying to clean up a park for people to play at.

Marcia you must give all your kids B’s so you never forget who you really are.

This is awsome I take my kids there I grew up there I think a disc golf course is a must there its a perfect layout keep up the awsome work that’s a great place another suggestion would be to redo that pond we would catch bluegills down there when we were little

Excellent job. The community needs more people like this!

You know Chris does a lot of very good things on his own time and with his own money for this city. Just because he lost a fixed election does not change the fact that he is a good person. Different than the guy that ran against him and won do to politics. The good don’t always win out in this world but, they should be appreciated. Thanks Chris.

Thank you Chris for your service to the community.

This is good and all but i think they should add a disc golf course to that park. That way i don’t have to throw over kids playing on a merry-go round in east park.

sure wish he would of won, those clowns up there need replaced but MC people just seem to keep voting people back in even though they cant do the job

He’s got to do something since he lost the supervisors race

sore losers always have an excuse
