Des Moines, Iowa — During a “firestorm” of criticism over his latest controversial comments, thousands of Iowans and Americans have petitioned for the removal of Congressman Steve King from his position on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Border Security. After learning of King’s remarks, one of his constituents, Jodi O’Donnell, a volunteer for Progress Iowa, started a petition on CREDO’s member generated petition site calling on him to be removed from the subcommittee.

“Steve King is an embarrassment to every Iowan he claims to represent,” said Jodi O’Donnell, who started the online petition. “I hope people know that his hateful language is not how most Iowans feel. He should be removed immediately from his important seat influencing immigration policy.”

“It’s time for House leadership to do more than condemn Steve King – it’s time for them to take action,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “King needs to be as far away from immigration policy as possible. If Speaker Boehner truly believes as most Iowans and Americans do, that King’s language is hateful, then he should have no problem removing him from a seat where his hateful attitude can influence public policy.”

Jodi O’Donnell’s petition reads:

“Remove Rep. Steve King from his seat on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Border Security now. His hateful characterization of immigrants as criminal drug smugglers and his continued extremism don’t reflect the views of a majority of Americans — nor his constituents in Iowa. It’s time to show your commitment to real immigration reform by removing him from his position.”

In an interview with Newsmax, King slandered young immigrants who would be eligible for citizenship under the DREAM Act stating that “For everyone who’s a valedictorian, there’s another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert.” Speaker of the House John Boehner responded by suggesting King’s comments were out of bounds, stating “There can be honest disagreements about policy without using hateful language. Everyone needs to remember that.” And Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., suggested on Tuesday that “we as a nation should allow this group of young people to stay in the U.S. legally.”

Despite mounting criticism, King has shown no remorse and refused to back down. In an interview with Radio Iowa’s O. Kay Henderson on July 24th, King said, “It’s not something that I’m making up. This is real,” and responded to critics by saying “it’s enough for anybody to be offended these days. They apparently don’t have to use their brain.”

After O’Donnell started the online petition, more than 10,000 had signed during its first 24 hours. For the full petition site, visit: http://org.credoaction.com/petitions/tell-house-leadership-remove-steve-king-from-immigration-subcommittee

I believe that Mr. King is just flapping his jaws because he likes all the attention that he gets when he says stupid things.

I doubt that he actually BELIEVES the stuff that he says.

Oh yeah, Matt Sinovic and his crowd is exactly the kind of group whose advice one should consider – they are so full of it and irrelevant. But we can all count on MSM to continue using them to pretend they are actually reporting on someone with meaningful ideas.

Whose that hot chick in the middle? I wrote a song about her when she was 17.

Figures

I’m just a typical male sucker. After noticing how cute she is I feel bad about ripping on her dice idea so bad. It’s easy to get caught up in the hate Robin hype at NIT.

If she were not there it would be someone else in the same building. It wasn’t built for her.

Again, there is nothing that Steve King stated that is not true. He simply wants to insure there is a way to welcome the valedictorians and the drug smugglers. It is not hard to understand people. The current gang of 8 deal would include everyone.

Every news source that were quoted here are far left wing groups. Back up, cool off and think about it. I am all for granting citizenship to those that deserve it, but the current bill includes all of them, that is not right. Sneaking into the country to earn full rights should not be accepted. Do it leagally and again, those here that were born here through no fault of there own should go to the front of the line and King knows that and has stated that. Not a blanket policy for everyone.

Here we go again with some more government BS. 10,000 people sign a complaint, and, as per Jodi O’Donnell, “this reflects the views of a majority of Americans”. I’m sure that there are more people than that, living in the border states that feel and think just like King. The government never does a poll of people that object to their whims. So maybe he did get a little carried away describing the backdoor illegals, but at least he had the courage to say it publicly. Remember, if you speak out against the government, you could be labeled a terrorist. Leave King alone, he’s just saying what a lot of people think.

Granny go sit your butt on the border, somewhere around El Paso and then tell us all about Steve King.

King is one of the few congressmen to visit the border and see what is really happening there! I hope none of you buy the story that there are 11 million illegals in the U.S….as there are at least 10 million more and the ones here keep multiplying.

OMG, it’s a rodent problem! You people kill me.

How do you know they aren’t multiplying with whites. I know Mexican girls know how to keep their mouths shut and support their man when white girls too often start singing.

Congressman King is the only one at Congress that has the courage to speak the truth and to do what is right. He talks his oath of office seriously. To bad we don’t have another 434 members like him the country would be in a lot better shape.

so what you are saying is that there are a lot of honest trustworthy people living in Asbury?

When I went to NIACC I our photography class got our van pulled over for driving in Asbury. Back then it wasn’t as full as it is now. I have noticed this in my life though. The poor and rich neighborhoods are the best places to live generally.

Like the poor neighborhoods taken over by Mexicans with some whites and Mexican store is nice. People and friendly and nice. The nicer neighborhoods can be very nice and friendly. The worst is anywhere in between. The middle and lower middle have a real chip and want to see their neighbor fail often.

Hey any mouse, tell us how you really feel and not what your gods are saying.

Wingnut!
