MASON CITY – A very large turtle – for North Iowa standards – was discovered trying to cross a road in Mason City Monday morning.
The turtle was spotted at around 10 AM making its way slowly across a bridge on South Delaware Avenue but had stopped. A small crowd of bystanders had gathered near Curves to check out the beast.
One onlooker claimed the turtle’s shell was in the neighborhood of 24 inches long or more. No one was sure exactly what species of turtle it was. There appeared to be a small amount of blood near the turtle as well.
By 11 AM or so, four men arrived and were trying to put the turtle in a box, presumably to move it to another location.
There was no word on where the turtle was taken.
