MASON CITY – A neglected property on Mason City’s south side is finding new life as work has begun on a transformation.

The former Kum & Go convenience store located at 2227 19th Street SW – vacant for an extended period of time – is currently undergoing a complete remodel into a chiropractic office.

The property is owned by Ryan Winchester, 27, of Mason City, who is a licensed chiropractor and graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.

Winchester said Friday that he hopes to be open in the next couple of months and that to begin with, he will have a small staff working with him.

The building remodel includes gutting the entire inside and installing a more traditional roof, Winchester said.

A City Hall official called the redevelopment of the property a “great adaptive reuse of a neglected property.”
