FRANKLIN, Tenn., April 24 (UPI) — Japanese automaker Nissan said its 2014 Versa sedan would have a list price of $12,780, which ranks it as the lowest priced car sold in the United States.
The price includes shipping, The Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.
The newspaper also noted the price is the lowest for a new car when compared the prices of 2013 model cars, which were in the showrooms when the Nissan calculated its prices.
Owners of the base model – the S model with 5-speed transmission – can also brag about the car’s thrifty use of fuel, the newspaper said.
The vehicle is rated at 31 miles per gallon in city driving and 40 mpg on highways.
But relatively few Versa owners are bragging.
In a Consumer Reports survey, only 49 percent of Versa owners indicated they would buy another Versa. That was a lower percentage than any car in its class and lower than any other car included in the report, including the GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck with a V-6 engine, which received a vote of confidence from only 51 percent of its owners, the Free Press said.
