Honda to recall 204,500 vehicles to replace safety component

TOKYO, April 19 (UPI) — The Honda Motor Co. says it will recall 204,500 vehicles from the 2012 and 2013 model years to replace a safety component.

The recall covers 128,000 Honda CR-Vs and 59,000 Honda Odysseys from model years 2012 and 2013 and 17,500 Acura RDX vehicles of the 2013 model year, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Honda said internal testing discovered that under below-freezing conditions the vehicles’ transmissions could be shifted out of park without depressing the brake pedal.

Spokesman Chris Martin said the problem could allow the vehicle to accidentally shift into drive.

Martin said the problem had occurred only during company testing and not to any customer vehicles.
