DALLAS, March 31 (UPI) — A mint condition, signed mono copy of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album sold for $290,500 at a Dallas auction house, officials said.
The album, signed by all four members of The Beatles, had been listed at $30,000 before the sale by Heritage Auctions.
The selling price shattered the previous record for an autographed Beatles album — $150,000 in a private sale for a copy of “Meet the Beatles,” The Dallas Morning News reported.
Two bidders — one on the phone, another on the Internet — battled it out for the album.
One of the two bidders — identified only as from the U.S. Midwest — ended up winning, The Hollywood Reporter said.
