MASON CITY – A fire raged Friday morning south of Menard’s at or near a construction site on 9th Street SW.
As heavy snow pelted the area, Mason City police, fire and ambulance personnel were at the scene. Fire fighters were on the tall ladder shooting water down upon the blaze with was about 150 meters west of Village Green Drive at what appeared to be the construction site for an apartment complex.
News tips began rolling into NIT at about 12:30 AM.
“Giant fire behind Menards!” one caller stated.
“Fire behind Meanards raging around midnight. Either Metal Craft or other construction in area,” another by passer reported.
At about 1:10 AM Friday all personnel were still on the scene, and a fairly large fire could be seen from a distance.
At this point there is no word on what caused the blaze or how much, if any, damage was done.
