Former Mason City woman flees store with perfume, charged with theft

MASON CITY – A former Mason city woman was charged with theft after fleeing security guards at a Mason City retail store.

Olga Gutierrez, 40, showing a Stacyville, Iowa address but formerly of Mason City, was located by Mason City police after fleeing Kohl’s security guards on Sunday, December 18th at about 2:35 PM with three bottles of perfume.

Gutierrez was arrested and charged with enhanced 3rd degree theft and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.  According to records, Gutierrez was released from jail and will face a court date on January 4th, 2013.

Gutierrez is already awaiting a January 15th, 2013 court date on another charge of enhanced third degree theft after a September 29th, 2012 incident where Mason City police issued a citation.  According to a report, security at Hy-Vee Drug Store attempted to detain Gutierrez but she fled the scene after being suspected of shoplifting.

According to records, in addition to several other theft convictions and at least one domestic assault conviction, Gutierrez is a convicted felon resulting from a class D felony forgery charge brought by Mason City police in 2006.  Records show Gutierrez requested permission to travel to Mexico in 2008 and returned later and had her United States citizenship reinstated.
