a citizen You should get away from your PC and find yourself a life……it’s out there, just waiting for you to find it.

Mr.Gonzales: Life is where you find it, and what you make of it. Have a nice day.

Maybe we should just close Monroe Avenue to traffic. Seems like the logical thing to do, then no one would ever get hit! While were at it, let’s close all the streets to traffic so pedestrians won’t have any responsibility at all. When we are all eating at community kitchen, they’ll have to build a bigger, better one somewhere safer anyway!!
(I hope you pick up on the sarcasm, cuz I layed it on pretty thick!)

Mr. Bunnell: Would you clarify your last post? It does not appear to have any relevance to the article being discussed here. It also seems I might have touched a nerve with you in some way.

This area needs to be better lit & with a VISIBLE crosswalk & flashing light maybe. They are open for supper now & it’s dark out so early. I can see this from both sides – as a driver you should ALWAYS have your eyes on the road & as a pedestrian you have the right to cross the street. Dude was 88 years old, how can anyone give him a ticket, seriously? Community kitchen needs a parking lot on the same side of the street as their business. I’ve seen people taking off into traffic with walkers & wheelchairs there.

The north end has nothing to do with it ! Could happen anywhere .

Cletus is a great guy and I hope he will be ok. He is 88 years old and walks slowly, I would think the driver would have seen him and been able to stop in time.

I must say we drive that stretch of road every single day and having a crosswalk does no good what so ever. It is unmarked and most drivers wouldn’t see it any way. These people come out of the Kitchen and don’t even look. They just take off across the street. I am surprised it took this long for someone to get hit. North End or South End doesn’t make any difference when you don’t take the proper precautions. By the way, this is a little different than the lady illegally riding a bike on a sidewalk.

If drivers would take the responsibility of watching where they were going and also following the legal speed limit, a lot of these accidents/near accidents would be avoided. Just because a person is right does not mean they are not responsible.

It sounds like your changing directions here, or did you finally come to your senses. Just wondering ofcourse.

This is a terrible place for j-walking. I drive this road several times everyday, and there are always people cutting across the street carrying their food! I am surprised there has not been more accidents…they need to put in a crosswalk.

Sure they can; he was j-walking. Or did you miss the “outside the cross walk area”?

I walk to work 2 miles every day. It’s scary how oblivious MC drivers are to pedestrians.

Damn North End!

It’s safer to walk on the streets of the south end in more ways than one obviously!!

I wonder if the MCPD will give this pedestrian a ticket for getting hit by a car too? If you all remember thats what they did with the lady on a bike that got hit.

This pedestrian was doing an illegal act. To always blame the driver is a subjective concept of passing the guilt to someone who may be totally innocent.
