MASON CITY – Mason City police have made two arrests and anticipate a third in what they are calling a “shoplifting spree” that took place in October.
Police say three suspects visited Target, Wal-Mart, Shopko and Fleet Farm in Mason City and stole video game equipment and accessories including 2 Nintendo DS’s and up to 21 game controllers, among other items, and then traded the goods into the GameStop store in Mason City for cash.
Currently in the Cerro Gordo County Jail is Colten Lewis Williamson, age 19, who claims to live in Mason City, who is charged with 2nd degree theft, a Class D felony in Iowa. Williamson is being held on $5,000 bond after being booked on November 1st. Lt. Ron Vande Weerd of the Mason City Police Department said Williamson cooperated and came willingly to police headquarters and then was arrested. Police say Williamson was identified in surveillance video.
Already arrested and out on bond is Brian Michael Mcginnis, 18, who claims to live in Kanawha. He also charged with 2nd degree theft. The third suspect remains at large and was not named by police at this time.
No court dates have yet been set for either man.
Williamson is no stranger to trouble in the recent past.
In July of 2011, a “Petition for Relief from Domestic Abuse” was filed by a woman in Wright County, Iowa. Judge James Drew placed the protective order on August 3rd, 2011 for 1 year.
Then in April of 2012, a “Petition for Relief from Domestic Abuse” was filed in Hancock County by two women there, but Judge Colleen Weiland threw it out because “Protected Party Did Not Appear.”
Then in July of this year, Colten Williamson was charged with 4th degree criminal mischief by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Williamson has plead not guilty and the case remains in court.
Williamson had 5th degree criminal mischief charges in Wright county thrown out this year.
In June of this year, Williamson plead guilty to trespassing, harassment and disorderly conduct again in Wright county and received a $100 fine plus court costs.
