MANLY – A mini-van carrying several children headed to a canoe trip ran a stop sign and collided with a semi-truck Tuesday morning near the intersection of Wheelerwood Road and Highway 9 a few miles west of Manly. The incident took place at 9:30 AM.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, two females were fatalities in the accident: Cassidy Stehn, age 9, of Northwood and Hana Riedinger, age 12, of of Kensett, Iowa.
Nicole Streets, 22, of Northwood, who was driving the mini-van, was injured and transported to Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
The driver of the semi-truck, Steven Broderson, age 59 of Manly, was treated at the scene.
The crash report also lists the following persons as injured in the accident: Destiny Bruce, 10; Jaela Parks, 10; Maeghan Petznick, 10; and Hailey Schaefer, 11, all from Northwood.
The mini-van was southbound on Wheelerwood Road and ran a stop sign at Highway 9; it was then struck by the eastbound semi-truck broad-side.
The accident remains under investigation.
