MASON CITY – Local Democratic leaders and other advocates held a press conference today at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse praising the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that largely upheld President Obama’s health care law, sometimes referred to as “Obamacare.”

In attendance were Senator Amanda Ragan, Representative Sharon Steckman, both of whom made remarks.

Also speaking today were Midge Slater, Iowa Alliance for Retired Americans; Matt Sinovic of Progress Iowa; and Molly Tafoya of One Iowa, a gay, lesbian and transgender advocacy group.

Peter, being civil, sometimes you have to think before you speak. If you didn’t own a car, would you have to buy insurance for a car? I still don’t like the idea that they make me buy insurance for my car or I pay a fine.

Control Control Control Screw You

Socialized Medicine is when the Government will decide who gets what and who does/does not get cancer treatment; whether Grandpa or Grandma should get heart treatment; whether preemie’s will get millions $$$$$’s to save their lives – and end up disabled which will cost the government even more tax dollars. NOT EVERYBODY DESERVES EVERYTHING! The U.S. is an obese, unhealthy nation. SMOKERS should be paying triple for health insurance premiums! The Obese should be paying more, heavy drinkers should be paying more for their premiums! Persons with AIDS should pay more for premiums. Limit the number of babies a welfare mother/father can produce!! This country has become a nation of unhealthy leeches headed down the path of destructive bankruptcy – just like Greece and Europe.

Goverment leaders should not have seperate health insurance and lifetime benefits. Congress/Senate TERM LIMITS would be a great change for all of America, desperately needed and long overdue.

There are far too many taking from the system and not enough giving to the system and it is getting worse with the BABY BOOMERS retiring, covering the illegals, and on and on and on and on !

How many Americans are running up to CANADA for their health care programs ? HOW MANY ???

You don’t know what you are talking about. Insurance companies are going to be eventually decimated by this whole deal. County and state govts are going to like this? Please educate yourself. Have you not been reading about states concerns of forced Medicaid expansion when they can’t afford the Medicaid bill they’ve got now? And by the way who makes up counties and states? Taxpayers and they are not going to like paying for this monstrosity. It’s boring to discuss things with people that aren’t familiar with what’s going on. You can’t just make things up and get along in the real world.

Peter L your problem is watching Brian Williams. Why don’t you try expanding your knowledge base to Breitbart, American Thinker, Daily Caller, etc., also. Read both sides to get a more well rounded approach to the world. You must educate yourself with both sides of an issue–it’s called critical thinking. MSM is so far left right now you are not going to get the truth there.

Brian Williams, that’s your source? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA you crack me up Peter. Care to comment on the 21 new taxes we the people will have to pay for Obamacare or is that not relative? Take your blinders off. The real issue is the fact that TAXPAYERS are splitting the bill for the forced healthcare.

Stunning propaganda. Nobody asked any opposing questions? Why give them a forum? Amanda Ragan’s personal stories about local people with healthcare access problems reminds me of how our president uses examples to try to tug at heartstrings. Why weren’t those women on Medicaid? They know it is easy to get benefits in Iowa. After 2 years of being on disability you can get on Medicare. What was the deal? Somebody ask and if you don’t you are part of the problem.

The freedoms that will be lost are my main concerns. Study concerns of any socialized healthcare system. Don’t you wonder why you rarely see problems associated with this reform bill? Why not talk about those too in the press, aren’t there always 2 side to every story? Why did we not try other reform measures like TORT REFORM? Could it be the lobbying power of attorneys? What about pharm costs? No one can get a handle on them? What about fraud? People that work in the industry see it many times. Could we police that more? Allowing people to get health insurance across state lines would increase competition and help stop with the complicated mess that health insurance has become. None of that was done. Instead a huge unaffordable freedom taking law was pushed on the American people. It is a sad time and I fear for the republic. People better wake up and get educated and stop with the ignorance and apathy before we lose the freedom that has made the great American experiment what it is. The corrupt press needs to tell both sides of the story so people can logically make their choice. The MSM is such an embarrassment to themselves, no wonder their ratings are so poor. What a joke.

Common Sense, Something Peter L seems to lack during most of his rants. Thank you Common Sense for making sense out of this.

The difference with auto insurance is you potentially could be hurting somebody else, damaging other people’s property for which they would have no recourse if you had no money. You are talking apples to oranges. Maybe you should take a course in common sense.

An auto accident caused by you results in many costs including police, ambulance, wreckers, auto body repair for which your auto insurance covers for someone else other than yourself.

That’s the cost of allowing you to drive a automobile. That’s why the society does not want people to drive without insurance. It doesn’t protect you as much as is protects other people on the road.

The cost to each person for paying for the uninsured is miniscule compared to the devastation a car accident could be to your physical and financial well being.

” Why is a person entitled to collect insurance money when they’re struck by another motorist, but the hospital is not allowed to collect payment when they are “hit” by an uninsured patient?”

The law, that’s why.

Its 21 new taxes totaling more then $645 BILLION!
Last I checked my auto insurance only cost me and the transaction isn’t going through Washington. OBAMACARE will cost taxpayers and this country dearly.

Oh Peter thats the Liberal trash I expect from you. Sooo Predictable! 🙂

Choice, Peter Simple Choice. I can opt to not drive a car but cannot opt out of the Affordable Health Care Act.

“But Jason, you cannot opt out of the inevitable liability you will pose to the health care system if/when you become sick”

Actually Peter I CAN. I CAN REFUSE treatment.

You must all surely be wrong!!! That Obama guy told the world that this wasn’t a tax and it wasn’t about politics. He did this because he cares…about all of us. Just keep his comments in mind when the country finally ends up in receivership because of this.

Its 21 new taxes totaling more then $645 BILLION!

Uh-oh. I just thought of something else. A section in the bill gives real-time access to your bank records. This will be great. How efficient. What could possibly go wrong?

Hey I know. Let’s talk about the recent claim of a top doctor in Britain that says the NHS (Britain’s healthcare service) kills off 130,000 elderly patients every year. That at least warrants a look see doesn’t it? I know it doesn’t sound all warm and fuzzy like some of the stories we’ve been hearing about the new healthcare ideas. Darn those negative stories. It ruins pie in the sky stories.
