Two Most Wanted Fugitives Arrested

Albuquerque, NM – The United States Marshals Service in El Paso Texas arrested Juan Cruz (33) in El Paso Texas, Tuesday June 5, 2012 on an outstanding warrant for a Failure to Appear on Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor. The United States Marshals added Juan M. Cruz to the District of New Mexico’s Most Wanted list in May of 2012. In 2010, Cruz was arrested for sexually assaulting a child. Cruz absconded shortly after being released from custody pending the results of his trial.

Investigators assigned to the United States Marshals Service Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) Task Force began Investigating Cruz’s case and placed him on the New Mexico’s Most Wanted list in May. SWIFT Investigators developed information that Cruz had fled the State of New Mexico into Texas. The case was then given to the Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in El Paso. Deputies and Task Force Officers assigned to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Cruz at family members house in El Paso, Texas. Cruz will be booked into the El Paso County Detention Center pending extradition back to New Mexico.

Also on June 5, 2012 Investigators with the SWIFT Task Force arrested Frank Montano. Montano was listed on the New Mexico Department of Corrections Top Ten Most Wanted. Montano was wanted on a probation violation. Montano was on the DOC Top Ten due to his extensive criminal history. Investigators with SWIFT relentlessly pursued Montano and convinced Montano to surrender to SWIFT Task Force Officers.

United States Marshal Conrad E. Candelaria said “the Marshals Service holds a proud tradition of success in the pursuit and apprehension of dangerous fugitives, despite the attempts to elude by hiding in our cities, states or countries, the Marshals Service and its many partners in local, county, state and tribal police agencies work together to return dangerous fugitives back to the jurisdiction where the crime was committed to that they can be judged by a ‘jury of their peers’.”
