Village Coop Volunteers Beautify Events Center for Fair

MASON CITY June 16, 2012 – Several Village Cooperative residents gathered on Tuesday, June 19, to help beautify the North Iowa Events Center in preparation for the July 11-15 Fair.  The activity benefits from the expertise of former Fair board member and Master Gardner Audrey Huff, who is a Coop resident.  Coop resident Jim Kuhlman, former Cerro Gordo Co. Extension Director, also provided experienced input.  Kuhlman was one of the first North Iowans to be named a Master Gardner when the program began.

The planting adorned a seating area at the northeast corner of the All Seasons building.  The display filled an abstract collection of terra cotta containers in varied heights and sizes.  Volunteers expect plants to be at their colorful peak during the Fair.

Coop volunteers planting the bright array of flowers donated by Menard’s were Audrey Huff, Jim Kuhlman, Judy English, Shirley Petersen, and Doris Smith.  Huff says the residents of the 50-unit Village Cooperative offer a wide range of life experiences – both careers and personal interests — in such fields as gardening, banking, law, agriculture, health care, business management, social services, quilting and fabric design and much more.

‘All of us at the Village Coop benefit from sharing this large reservoir of practical living and careers,” Huff observes.

Cooperative residents must be age 55 or more.  The 50 individual living units are designed in a variety of sizes and floor plans; all residents share in the building ownership.
