Sports activities in North Iowa this weekend

NORTH IOWA – Anybody looking to catch some great sports action this weekend needs to look no further than right here in Mason City. Sunday we have the cross-town rivalry baseball game which is always a classic. Both the Knights and Mohawks have a lot of new faces on this year’s roster so it should be exciting to see what these new kids can do. Newman currently holds a 21-2 record, while the Mohawks are 9-13. Regardless of records when the Mohawks play the Knights one can always expect to see a well played baseball game. Game is scheduled to start at 4 PM at Roosevelt field.

If you can’t wait till Sunday to enjoy some athletic entertainment, head out to the fairgrounds on Saturday. You probably won’t see any Knights, but you will see plenty of men in kilts competing in the traditional Scottish Highland Games. The Highland Games is an ancient Scottish strongman event for those not familiar. In this event you will have a chance to see 7 of the top 20 ranked athletes in the US, competing in events such as the stone put and Caber Toss,(something akin to throwing telephone poles end over end)! There are several classes of competition and even a beginner class for people interested in competing for the first time. This should really be exciting to see what these Highland games are all about and get to see some of the best the country has to offer! The events start a 9:00 AM at the North Iowa Fairgrounds.

Both of these events promise excitement and a great family atmosphere, so get out and enjoy. No reason to be bored this weekend in Mason City!
