Statement by Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, President, Ken Sagar (pictured) on President Obama’s Announcement on Deferred Action for Immigrant Youth:
Working families in Iowa applaud the Obama Administration’s announcement to provide relief from deportation to immigrant youth brought to this country by their parents at a young age. The President’s actions bring much-needed security and encouragement to Iowa’s youth who can finally live without fear of separation from their families and deportation to a country they barely remember. This talented group of young Americans was educated here and should be permitted to pursue their dreams where they call home. Beginning today, Iowa’s best and brightest can finally contribute to our nation’s economy and help our communities prosper. The AFL-CIO commends the Administration for its courage and leadership in taking an important step towards a more just America.
President Obama’s announcement is a critical step to beginning to address our nation’s dire need for comprehensive immigration reform. We call on Iowa’s elected officials to work with the President towards a legislative solution that will address the parents and families of these immigrant youth, and the millions of undocumented workers who are now living in the shadows.
It all boils down to Hispanics doing the work/jobs our people are too lazy to do or think they are above doing. Also welfare has more gimmies and pays more than many of those jobs (another problem). Now with upper education being offered and taken and formerly “illegals” being able to work at “white collar” jobs, more of our spoiled, lazy, and unappreciative young people are gonna be crying the blues! We are responsible, we raised the kids and we let Washington and this president get away with it. When, if ever, are liberals gonna get their heads outa their asses?! Pull our troops outa all those countries that hate us for trying to save their asses, put the troops on our borders and don’t allow ANY aliens from any country in ’till we get this problem solved for starters and make more of our citizens support themselves, including our kids, with or without upper education! Time’s running out, people!
As a long time Union man who believes there is a place for unions, I sure don’t believe this is a good thing supporting Obama on this one.
This sends the wrong message to people all over the world that it’s ok to sneak into America and get the goodies without obeying the law.
What a convoluted message unions are putting out.
I learned many years ago that unions too sell out there own dues paying members. Here is another horrific example.
Shame on all of you that put politics and money ahead of rule of law!
The unions are happy they will have some cheap labor. That’s more money in there pockets. At the same time making it harder for our kids to get decent paying jobs.
Bobby G, I don’t get the connection with unions and cheap labor. You must have missed the articles written about union pay the last couple of weeks. Alot of people were complaining that union workers make too much money. When the unions are gone, all of us will become cheap labor. Also, how can you blame the unions for allowing the millions of immigrant youth to remain here to take jobs that our legal children should have. I don’t think that the unions have anything to do with that, as I have read in the paper that our president has said that he is going to allow them to stay. I really can’t believe that an AFL-CIO president would come out and say that. He must be Scott Walkers brother, or is being paid by somebody to say that.
Union leaders will say ANYTHING at anytime that sounds good to their masses of sheep. Union leaders speak out of both sides of their faces!
And what is the union going to do about the parents who will have to attest to bringing these illegals into the country?
