COLLEGE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Jerry Sandusky left his house for several hours Sunday afternoon with attorney Karl Rominger, who may have been taking him for a psychological evaluation.
On Friday, Senior Judge John Cleland granted the defense’s request to present expert testimony that Sandusky suffers from histrionic personality disorder. Someone with the condition can be excessively emotional and behave in way “often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior,” according to the American Psychiatric Association.
Part of Cleland’s order said that in order for the defense to call an expert, Sandusky would have to make himself available to examination by an expert for the prosecution.
CNN, citing a source “with knowledge of the case,” reported that that a prosecution psychologist would examine Sandusky on Sunday.
Rominger picked up Sandusky, who is out on monitored bail, Sunday afternoon.
The two were gone for several hours, returning at about 5:50 p.m. EDT, Sandusky dressed in khaki pants and a striped button-down shirt.
Sunday, others were also visiting the Sandusky home, which is at the end of a cul-de-sac.
Several neighbors have “Support victims of sexual abuse” signs in their yard.
Dana and Paul Kletchka said they have seen people drive by the Sandusky home crying. She said the sign in their yard isn’t meant to provoke.
“The sign was meant to support the people coming forward,” Dana Kletchka said. “More than anything it was meant to provide resources to the steady stream of people coming here.”
Sandusky’s trial resumes Monday morning.
