Multi Agency Collaboration Leads to 2 Arrests

Farmington, NM – On May 31, 2012 a State of New Mexico arrest warrant was issued for four subjects, Gabriel Alcon, Richard Winters, Vincent Montoya, Sarah Martinez. All subjects were wanted for Tampering/Destroying Evidence related to a Homicide and all were wanted for questioning in the Homicide of victim Anthony Jacquez in San Juan County, NM.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Department Detective Division asked assistance from the Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) Task Force in the apprehension of these four subjects. SWIFT Task Force (Farmington Office) conducted interviews for two straight weeks in the Four Corners area for these four subjects and interviews continue for subject Winters who is still outstanding.

Deputies and San Juan County Sheriff’s Department Detectives sent numerous leads, to the SWIFT Task Force in the Albuquerque, believing at least three of the subjects Martinez, Winters and Alcon were hiding in the Albuquerque area. The SWIFT Task Force out of Albuquerque investigated the leads and forced the suspects out of Albuquerque, which led to the apprehension of Alcon and Martinez.

Alcon received word the Marshals were looking for him and he decided to run back to San Juan County. On 06/13/2012 a call was received by 911 in San Juan county that Alcon ran from a residence after an argument with a family member of the victim. San Juan County Sheriff’s Department arrested him a short time later.

SWIFT Deputies and Task Force Officers conducted several interviews in Albuquerque related to the whereabouts of Sarah Martinez. Martinez knowing the Marshals were looking for her and it was only a matter of time before she would be located fled New Mexico into Arizona. It was found through interviews conducted by SWIFT in Albuquerque that Martinez was traveling with her significant other Amelia Salazar. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department, in Phoenix, Arizona called San Juan County Sheriff’s Department yesterday on 06/13/2012 stating they received information Martinez and Salazar were dropped off at a Motel 6 located on 23rd Avenue and Bell Road in Phoenix, Arizona. Salazar was apprehended for Harboring a Fugitive when she was seen by Maricopa County Deputies at the hotel. The hotel was locked down and Martinez was later located after surrendering from one of the hotel rooms. Knowing that his arrest would be short coming Vincent Montoya turned himself into Arizona authorities yesterday evening.

Winters has still not been apprehended. Leads are still coming in about Winters and are being investigated be the Marshals Service SWIFT Task Force.
