Jerome “Jerry” Sandberg, 85, of 601 E. South Street, Manly, died Monday, June 11, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.  His wish was to be cremated.  A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park on a later date.  Online condolences may be shared at www.fullertonfh.com.

Jerry was born November 5, 1926 in Odin, Minnesota to James and Mary (Larson) Sandberg.  He lived in Minnesota and attended school there until he was drafted into the Army.  In the Army Jerry was a Golden Glove Boxer, he loved to fight.  He also spent some time in Germany while serving.  When he was honorably discharged he lived in Mason City with his sister.  After living in Mason City for awhile he moved to Chicago, IL until retirement.  Recently Jerry had been a resident at Manly Nursing Home.

It was in Chicago that Jerry met Beverly Cox.  They were united in marriage on July 24, 1963.  To this union three children were born.  Jerry worked as a salesman for heating and air conditioning.  He lived life to the fullest, always fast and furious.  He liked traveling, camping, boating, and was fascinated with air planes.  Florida, Wisconsin Dells, and Black Hills are just a few places he enjoyed traveling to.  Jerry was also an avid sports fan.  The Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees were his favorite teams.  Besides watching sports, Jerry liked to play pool, go dancing, and play cards, especially cribbage.  He will be remembered as “Little Bear,” and missed by his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Beverly Sandberg; his two children, Geraldine “Gerry” (Mike) Studer and Christine (Fiancé Chris) Sandberg; step-son, Logan (Tami) Harrison; sister, Ardella Christiansen; three grandchildren: Jackie (Jeremy) Fleenor, Catrina Little, and Cole McKirgan; three step-grandchildren: Ben Studer, Mackenzie Studer, Jessica (Jamie) Paulsen, Nicole and Tuesday; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Steven Sandberg.
