UPDATE: MCFD battles TWO dumpster fires this morning

MASON CITY – The Mason City Fire Department was called to another dumpster fire early Thursday morning around 1 AM.

This latest incident was in an alley just south of Good Shepherd Nursing Home in an alley.  A red dumpster was ablaze from an unknown cause at 322 1st Street NE.  The MCFD reported that it was “fully engulfed.”

In the video below, a passer by saw the fire fighter arrive and shot the video and sent it in to NIT.

NIT has learned that a second dumpster fire was also extinguished at 25 9th Street NW at 3:05 AM.  According to the MCFD report, “Department dispatched for report of a dumpster fire at the above listed address. Unit 2315 responded code 3 without incident. Upon our arrival we found a dumpster fully engulfed. Dept extinguished and returned to service.” Fire fighters were on the scene until 3:20 AM.

A dangerous trend may be in the works, as two dumpsters were possibly set on fire intentionally Tuesday morning.

Read more about that incident here.

More information as it becomes available.

Anyone with information on these incident should call the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3636.

I am the one who said do it in the country, not that I want this to spread into the rural areas but I think these people should move out of town and burn on thier own property. I would never want anyone elses property to be involved, and no I’m not stupid but thanks. I really don’t think that concerned people should turn agianst other concerend people. I am just sick to think that anyone would be so rude to ever want to ruin what is’t thier own. I also agree that there should be neighborhood watches especially with the weather being so nice latley that more and more crime is happening. Let me know where and when and I’ll be there….

That’s great your willing to join,Anonymous! Come on people lets not just sit on the computer and complain about what is definitely over taking our city. Lets get out there and make a difference. We need more volunteers for this to work! Once I feel we have a good share of willing people to join, we will set up a meeting.

Is there any “Concerned Citizens” interested in starting/joining a ‘City Wide’ neighborhood watch program? We have been thinking about starting our own. I’m not exactly sure how to conduct one on my own but have been reading on it. Our watch would consist of patrolling in cars/or on bikes, also. Anyone interested? If I get a lot of interests we
will set up a possible meeting.

I think all of us citizens who are concerned about all this needs to get together and do our own staging against these creeps. This is getting out of hand, not to mention they are taking over our city!

Mills Fleet Farm sells so pretty good deer camera’s at a decent price. If something goes in front of it, it will snap a picture. Maybe anyone who owns a dumpster should look into the possibility of getting one of these. I know I am.

I think they’re called trail cameras. Excellent idea! Walmart sells them also. You just set them up and they take a picture of anything that moves. I can think of lots of uses for these! Of course, you’d better fasten them down tight or they’ll be stolen (or burned up).

Yes I would fasten them down but they can be very inconspicuous as well. 🙂 We’ll get them one way or another.

It’s probably the Shopper delivery guys burning the papers so pics of the dumped bundles don’t show up on here again

The fires are probably just lit as a distraction for the police while others are out doing home invasions

Whoever is doing this obviously isn’t the brightest and will get caught in a matter of time. These childish, ignorant, selfish, little punks with no parental guidance (I don’t care how old they are they obviously were raised by morons.) Had this dumpster gotten out of hand, they could have had multiple manslaughter charges added to their rap sheep.

I just hope they catch him before he gets bored burning dumpsters and moves on to bigger targets.

This sucks. It doesn’t matter if they catch the culprit, our county attorney and judge will just give the criminal a deferred sentence and deferred fine anyway. Basically what it boils down to is if you are a low-life drain on society and commit crimes like this you will get every break under the sun. You and I hard working citizen that only gets a minor traffic violation will always pay the price for that fine.

Ummmm….Not appreciated. We that live on gravel roads deal with enough issues in Cerro Gordo County. We are not dumping grounds for trash, electronics, pets or vandalism- and yes, we see it all. It’s plain and simple, this needs to stop. This type of behavior does not belong anywhere. Stop and think………Right from Wrong- People just don’t seem to get it anymore.

I know the people that live at this house and they said there was an explosion and that shook the house. The dumpster was also close to thier garage. There are kids in that neighborhood with kids that live in the house close to this. I guess people just don’t care anymore. If you feel you must set things on fire why don’t you do it out in the country on gravel road away from houses. I just don’t understand people why must you wreak whats not your, people nowdays have no respect.

Are you really that stupid? There are people who also live out in the country. If they start doing this in the country you risk even more lives/ property with farm land. Like the three stupid kids last year in the corn fields.

completely agree! when people start doing ANYTHING this stupid it affects a lot of people. when they take it to the country, just because there is “extra” land around, they then cost the farmers more money and have the potential to kill animals and damage more property. just like those kids you refered to.
