Family of dismembered man arrives in Montreal to collect remains

By Gisela Ostwald –

NEW YORK — The family of the Chinese student who was murdered and dismembered while his killer videotaped the crime arrived in Montreal on Thursday, according to Canadian media.

The parents, sister and an uncle of the victim, Jun Lin, flew to Canada from China in order to aid the police in their investigation and bring his remains home, the Globe and Mail reported.

The alleged perpetrator of the gruesome crime, a Canadian porn star named Luka Magnotta, was arrested earlier this week in Berlin. He is expected to be handed over to Canadian authorities this month.

Magnotta killed the 33-year-old student with an ice pick. Several body parts were received by post at political parties in the country’s capital, Ottawa, and two schools in Vancouver.

The torso of the victim was found in a suitcase near Magnotta’s apartment, and the apartment itself was smeared with the victim’s blood.

Magnotta fled to Paris and then to Berlin, where he was arrested in an Internet cafe.

Investigators said they were also examining whether he could be connected to other unsolved crimes in Canada.
