MASON CITY – Early Monday morning at about 4:30 AM, Mason City Police Officers were dispatched to check the property owned by McKiness Excavating in the 300 block of 15th Street NE. The caller reported a theft of scrap metal from the property was occurring.
An officer spotted a truck pulling a trailer, both loaded with scrap metal, leaving the area. The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with Brian Ziesman (46) and Travis Waslick (39). After an investigation, Waslick was charged with 3rd degree theft and trespassing. Waslick was held on $2,000 bond at the Cerro Gordo County Jail. Ziesman was charged with joint criminal conduct for his role in the furtherance of the theft. Ziesman was cited and released form the scene. 3rd degree theft is an aggravated misdemeanor and is punishable by up to two years in prison or a $6,250 fine. Trespass and joint criminal conduct in this case are both simple misdemeanors punishable by up to a $625 fine or 30 days in jail.
